Event Cancellation

  • Severe adverse weather (hurricanes, tornados, severe winter storms, etc.)
  • Venue unavailability (fires, floods, power outages, etc.)
  • Non-appearance of a key speaker
  • Threats or acts of terrorism
  • Communicable disease outbreaks

Event Weather

Weather Insurance protects against adverse weather conditions that reduces attendance and revenue. It is designed to offset not only the revenue lost due to reduced attendance, but other revenue sources such as concessions, food and parking. It can cover just about any measurable perils such as:

We can also provide a couple of other types of weather insurance designed to protect a budget for certain businesses:

Cost Containment Weather Insurance is designed to contain costs associated with abnormal weather conditions. An example of this would be with municipalities, private schools/hospitals, property managers or others responsible for all costs associated with removing snowfall and treating icy roadways. In an abnormally snowy winter, costs will escalate, blowing through a budget mid-season. Our seasonal or annual cover responds to pay for each and every storm or inch of snow, excess of an agreed upon threshold, keeping the budget intact.

Income Stabilization Weather Insurance is a business interruption tool in a simplified format specific to a reduction in sales/revenue tied solely to weather. Examples would be a restaurant where most of their sales are done on the weekend, and a storm dropping 6 inches of snow blows through on a Friday afternoon wiping out 50% or more of those sales. A pay-for-play golf course experiences a summer full of weekend wash-outs dramatically impacting their bottom line. With both examples, our seasonal or annual weather cover responds to the business interruption, paying them an agreed upon limit per day to offset the shortfall.

Prize Indemnity Insurance

An Insured Promotion enables the promoter or sponsor to accurately budget for the cost of the prize and protects the company's balance sheet from any unnecessary liability. It allows the event organizer a way to offer a risk-free large prize for a fraction of the prize value. A few examples of the types of promotions we can insure include:

  • Collect & Win
  • Match & Win
  • Weather Contingent Promotions
  • Sweepstakes with a “kicker”
  • Skill Contests such as hole-in-one, basketball half-court shots, football toss, etc. (available for automatic quoting online at www.totaleventinsurance.com)
  • And much more…

Promotional/Prize Weather

Promotional/Prize Weather Insurance is designed to stimulate sales for retailers and manufacturers of many products. If a certain weather event occurs on a predetermined day, consumers receive a full or partial refund on all purchases made during the promotion period. Parameters of the promotion with regard to percentage refund, sales period, who qualifies, etc. are to be determined by the Insured Party and Specialty Group. Weather-contingent promotions have proven to be enormously successful.

Weather perils are:

  • Rain
  • Snowfall
  • Temperature

Typical buyers of Prize Weather are:

  • Jewelers
  • Auto dealers
  • Furniture stores
  • Etc.

Kidnap & Ransom Insurance

The threat of kidnap and ransom has dramatically increased in the U.S. and abroad. Incidents are happening with alarming frequency throughout the world, and not just in traditional "hot spots" like Latin America and the Mid-East. Today's insurance coverage needs to address the concerns of high profile organizations as well as smaller firms whose employees and corporate assets are equally at risk.

HCCS has been writing Kidnap/Ransom, Extortion and Detention Insurance for over 25 years, addressing the full range of exposures facing commercial enterprises and individuals based in the U.S. and overseas. Our broad policy offers a comprehensive package of protection designed to help victims cope with what can be devastating emotional and financial consequences should an event occur.

Policy Highlights:

  • Kidnap/Ransom (K&R): reimburses the policyholder for ransom paid following an actual or alleged kidnapping of an "insured" person, relative or guest.
  • Extortion Bodily Injury: reimburses the policyholder for ransom paid following the receipt of a threat to kill, injure or kidnap an "insured" person, relative or guest.
  • Detention: reimburses the policyholder for the salary of an "insured" person, relative or guest who is the victim of a detention, as well as certain, expenses incurred by the policyholder.
  • Extortion Property Damage: reimburses the policyholder for ransom paid following the receipt of a threat to cause physical damage or loss to the insured''s products or property.

Restaurant Recovery & Product Recall

Accidental contamination and malicious tampering of food products in the restaurant industry causes restaurants to lose millions of dollars in revenue, including restaurants and groups of franchisees trading under the same name as the business originally affected. The impact of a trading interruption to a restaurant that suffers the effects of a food borne illness, contamination, tampering or extortion, has proven to have a devastating effect of the reputation of a business, and its financial stability can be irreparably damaged. The Restaurant Recovery Insurance policy offered through HCC Specialty responds to that need.

The policy offers business interruption coverage back to pre-incident sales and also covers brand name rehabilitation costs. Numberous other additional expenses are covered including recall costs, incident expenses, and crisis management advice. Coverage is available to restaurants of any size, single or multi-location enterprises including individual groups of franchisees.
